Rancho Cordova Motorcycle Officer Hurt In Accident

SUTTER COUNTY (CBS13) ― A Rancho Cordova motorcycle officer has been seriously hurt in an accident on Highway 99 in Sutter County while in uniform on his way to work.

The accident happened around 11:30 this morning at the intersection of HIghway 99 and State Route 113.  Highway 99 is closed in both directions as the officers investigate the accident.  Traffic is being diverted to the Garden Highway.

The officer, who's name has not been released, has been taken to Sutter Roseville Hospital.  The Sacramento County Sheriff's department says the injured officer is a sheriff's deputy under contract with the Rancho Cordova Police Department.  A deputy who is at the hospital says the officer's injuries are 'significant' but not life-threatening.

Just last month another Rancho Cordova motorcycle officer was killed in an accident.

Police say 43-year-old Larry Canfield, assigned to the Rancho Cordova Police Department, died while he was trying to stop a speeder on Coloma Road.

Canfield collided with another vehicle when it pulled in front of him at the intersection of Coloma Road and Chardonnay drive.

Investigators believe the 79-year-old driver didn't see Canfield coming down the street.
