Friends, family and local law enforcement are mourning the loss of a fellow officer who lost his life in a tragic accident.
Police say 43-year-old Larry Canfield, assigned to the Rancho Cordova Police Department, died while he was trying to stop a speeder on Coloma Road.
Canfield collided with another vehicle when it pulled in front of him at the intersection of Coloma Road and Chardonnay drive.
Investigators believe the 79-year-old driver didn't see Canfield coming down the street.
CHP has taken over the investigation.
This isn't the first time tragedy struck on that same stretch of road in Rancho Cordova.
This is the second time in three years that a motorcycle officer has crashed on the same road.
Larry Canfield's crash was at Sierra Madre Lane.
Canfield's former partner was paralyzed nearly years ago when his motorcycle collided with a car at Cordova Lane.
"He crashed within a stones throw of where I went down and unfortunately I was paralyzed and tragically Larry lost his life," Officer Canfield's former partner Bob Woodel told CBS13.
Each of the officers was hit by drivers who claimed they didn't see them.
