The woman who was arrested for leading police on a 50-mile
high speed chase from Rio Vista to Sacramento says that she was trying to get her dog back to her house.
In a jailhouse interview, 47-year-old Annette Hurd told CBS13 correspondent David Begnaud that her small dog was in her GEO Tracker as she allegedly fled the scene of a hit-and-run accident on Highway 12 in Rio Vista, triggering the pursuit.
Annette said she was tired and a "little bit" intoxicated after swimming all day, but was afraid that her dog would be taken away from her if she was arrested. A warrant in Contra Costa County had already been issued prior to Sunday's pursuit.
"I wasn't worried about me, I was worried about losing my dog," Annette said.
The chase came to a dramatic end on Interstate 5 in Sacramento when a patrol car rammed the suspect's vehicle after spike strips destroyed her tires. (

"I didn't want to hurt anybody," Annette said, "I wasn't trying to hurt nobody."
Hurd is being held without bail on charges of evading police with disregard to public safety, driving with a suspended license, throwing objects from the vehicle while moving, driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving, and felony hit and run.
Hurd's dog, Lexus, is safely in the custody of the Humane Society.
