Independent Paper Causing A Stir For Local Man

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) ― There are big problems over a small newspaper. A granite bay man says its delivery is putting his home in danger.

The paper is called the Press Tribune, which is a relatively small newspaper. But every time it shows up on one driveway it causes big frustrations.

"I've never had a subscription to the paper, says Randy Kerslake.

For three years Randy Kerslake has called and written letters, trying to get the Press Tribune to stop delivering newspapers to his home.

"It would work for a month or two then I would get another paper," he says.

When he goes out town, Kerslake says a paper in his drive way become a safety issue.

"Getting yellow and old. It's an open invitation to somebody cruising neighborhoods looking for somebody who might not be home and the home be burglarized," says Randy.

He even contacted local government, who decided their hands are tied by the Constitution and freedom of the press.

The government is on a slippery slope when it comes to the news production or distribution.
The publisher for the Press tribune was not available for an interview but a paper representative says free newspapers are routinely delivered in hopes of getting new subscribers.

The tribune's right to deliver the paper is leaving this homeowner with a situation he says is just wrong.

"What about my rights as a property owner. Is its right they can just dump something on my property?"
