Auburn Eyeing Restrictions On Pit Bulls
AUBURN, Calif. (CBS13) ―
City officials are considering implementing restrictions on pit bulls after a teenager was attacked in downtown Auburn.
The Auburn City Council met Monday night to discuss potential changes to city ordinances relating to pit bull ownership, although officials were quick to point out that state law does not allow an outright ban of any one breed.
It's been 13 years since the city altered the laws on pets, but some residents are on edge after four pit bulls attacked a teenager in downtown Auburn in September. City leaders are considering changes that could include limiting the number of dogs allowed to be owned by a single person or requiring pit bulls to be spayed or neutered.
"What it sounds like we need is something that will help protect citizens of this community from fear of animals that are running loose," said Councilmember Dr. Bill Kirby.
Officials voted to have city staff collect information on what can actually be changed in city ordinances, requiring a report on potential changes by the end of the year or early next year.
