Paralyzed Law Student Passes Bar Exam

DAVIS, Calif. (AP) ― A paralyzed University of California law student has passed the bar exam after a legal battle to take the test.

Sara Granda, a 29-year-old UC Davis law school graduate, says she received notice Friday that she had passed the State Bar of California.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger congratulated Granda on her achievement. "She is a fighter," he said in a statement Saturday.

Granda was initially denied the opportunity to take the exam because her $600 test fee was paid by a check from the state Department of Rehabilitation instead of Granda using a credit card online. She petitioned the California Supreme Court to take the test and the court granted her request.

Granda says she's interested in practicing health law and policy.
