DA: Ex-CHP Officer's Murder Target Was Informant
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
A former CHP officer accused in a murder-for-hire plot was targeting an undercover informant who allegedly sold him drugs which lead to the officer's first arrest, according to the Placer County District Attorney.
Ruben Salgado was in court today on the solicitation for murder charge. The 37-year-old former officer was arrested for the second time two weeks ago on the murder-for-hire charge as well as additional drug charges.
CHP and Placer County investigators had previously arrested Salgado in May at his Rocklin home, allegedly high on drugs. He had only been off the job for an hour when he was taken into custody.
Salgado was charged with possession and transportation of meth, DUI, and possession of drugs while armed.
Before his arrest in May, Salgado had been under CHP investigation for two months after police received a criminal complaint. At the time, CHP said they kept him on the street in order to build their case.
Salgado's girlfriend Breaonna Nunez was also in court today on drug charges.
After her court appearance this morning, she said the entire case was trumped up by the CHP.
Nunez says it's retaliation for a lawsuit Salgado won against the CHP.
"They're out to get him. Cops, they can do whatever they want to do. If you think about it. And they can get away with it. And that's exactly what's happening," said Nunez outside court.
