Three Teens Missing In The Feather River
NICOLAUS, Calif. (CBS13) ―
Sutter County Sheriff's deputies have currently suspended the search in the water for three teenagers who have been missing for two days, and whose car was found submerged in the Feather River.
Authorities will continue Saturday to search the ground near Garden Highway and Lee Road.
The water search was happening near the town of Nicolaus along the Garden Hwy. and Lee Rd. Searchers are currently looking for 16-year-old Bodgan Lytuynyuk, 17-year-old Alex Kaplinisky and 18-year-old Roman Pristupa who are all from Citrus Heights.
Deputies first got a call around 11 p.m. Wednesday from a person who claimed to have heard a car doing donuts in the area and then heard a car go into the water. The caller told deputies they had heard screaming and people splashing in the water. When he went to see what was going on, the caller said he saw headlights shining in the water. A CHP helicopter was dispatched but could not find anything.
On Thursday, deputies received a call from friends of the missing teens who knew the teens frequented the area and told deputies they could see a car in the river. Deputies went out to the scene and pulled the car out of the river, but found no one.
Sheriff's Deputies tell CBS13 that when the car was pulled out of the river the car was in park and the keys were found on the floorboard. They also say the passenger's side window was down and the left-rear door was ajar. The car was found about 8 feet off the bank of the river where there is an 8 foot to 15 foot drop.
Today, deputies were back out at the river along with family members of the missing teens. They were using boats and divers to aid the search. A DART team from Sacramento also arrived to assist the divers.
Nicolaus is located about 25 miles north of Sacramento.
