Alert Modesto Man Catches Burglars Red-Handed
MODESTO (CBS13) ―
An alert Modesto man helped assist in the arrest of two men on burglary charges yesterday afternoon when he became aware of a suspicious vehicle parked nearby his neighbors house.
The man was doing yard work in his front yard on the 1900 block of Camelot Court when he spotted a white Chevy Lumina with two men in it as it turned onto the court to park. Authorities say that the passenger, later identified as 21-year-old Modesto resident Robert Watson, exited the vehicle and began walking north on Strathmore Drive wearing what appeared to be a backpack.
The neighbor became more suspicious and decided to walk through his backyard into the alley. He began to look into backyards of other residents on Chelwood Way and saw through a knothole that Watson was breaking a window of a home and crawling through the window.
The man immediately called 911 to alert authorities of the burglary. While authorities were on their way, the neighbor went back into his home to keep an eye on the vehicle still parked on Camelot Court.
When officers responded to the area they caught Watson as he was walking out of a side gate onto Chelwood Way. When Watson was arrested he was wearing black gloves, a ski mask, and also had two knives and a hammer.
Authorities also arrested the driver of the white Lumina who was identified as 20-year-old Modesto resident Keith Clark.
Watson was later booked for burglary, possession of stolen property, and conspiracy. Clark was also booked on burglary and conspiracy charges.
