Woman Accused Of Killing Boyfriend On Motorcycle
PLACERVILLE (AP) ―
Officials investigating a fatal head-on collision have added a suspicion of murder charge against a 23-year-old woman involved in the crash.
On Thursday Melissa Nicole Nichols' car hit a motorcycle traveling toward her, killing 23-year-old Anthony James Payne, whom she had been dating. On Friday Nichols was booked into El Dorado County Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and drunken driving resulting in bodily injury.
The murder charge was added after witnesses told investigators they saw the two talking on Carson Road near East County Road before the collision. Officials say that after the discussion the two left in different directions, but at some point Payne turned his motorcycle around and headed toward Nichols.
Investigators say Nichols' car veered into the lane in which Payne was driving and struck him.
