Modesto Pharmacy Serving Clients On Sidewalks
MODESTO (CBS13) ―
An usual sight can be seen in front of a Modesto pharmacy: Drug dealing, right out on the sidewalk. But it isn't what you think, and it's actually a necessity.
"We're here for our patients," said Lisa Rose from Modesto's Model Pharmacy. "We're taking care of them."
Staff at the Model Pharmacy has no other choice but to sell prescription drugs on the sidewalk, thanks to a major structural failure inside the building. On Friday afternoon, staff in the store noticed a huge support beam cracking and groaning.
"It looks like it had splintered," said Hugo Patino of the Modesto Fire Department. The beam holds up the roof of the store.
Water began seeping into the store and the building was immediately evacuated.
It could take months to fix the damage, and until they do, staff can't work inside. They're bringing the prescriptions outside.
Most customers didn't seem too upset.
"Extremely convenient," said Charlie Horton. "Very nice people."
The damage to the store is estimated at $250,000.
