Fire Rages In City-Owned Home, Site Of Pot Bust
MODESTO (CBS13) ―
An investigation is underway in Modesto after an overnight fire destroyed a city-owned home where authorities made a major marijuana bust last week.
The El Vista Avenue home was "fully engulfed" in flames by the time fire crews arrived at the scene late Monday night, and firefighters took a defensive strategy against the flames to keep it from spreading to any neighboring property.
Last week, four suspects were arrested for allegedly running a $1 million marijuana growing operation out of the home, which is owned by the city of Modesto. The city had acquired the property several years ago and rented it out through a property management company.
The Modesto Fire department estimates the fire caused $300,000 in damage.
There is still no word on how the fire started.
