Talk Of Politics Turns Violent At Midtown Eatery
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
What started out as a meal between friends ended in a stabbing outside a downtown Sacramento restaurant when the pair started talking politics and war.
The fun sounds of music, eating and drinking at the upscale Bistro 33 Midtown turned frantic this past weekend when a Russian and Georgian started talking politics.
The conversation continued outside on the restaurant patio, but the bouncers told the two to leave. So the conversation moved out to the sidewalk, that's when according to police, the Russian took out a knife and stabbed the Georgian.
The Russian, Oleg Margalitadze is now under arrest. The Georgian is in the hospital.
Police says the men were only acquaintances, had mutual friends and had met at the bar on business when the conversation turned to the war in Georgia.
The politics discussed were about a region halfway around the world, but the Sacramento area is home to 100,000 Russian Americans.
And in this case, it brought the violence of a foreign war to 16th and K Street, in the heart of midtown Sacramento.
