'Suspicious' Fire Damages Sac Middle School
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
Sacramento arson investigators are looking for answers after a middle school caught fire overnight, causing thousands of dollars in damage.
The two-alarm blaze broke out around 11:00 p.m. Saturday night at Leonardo Da Vinci Middle School in Sacramento, causing serious damage to the building and expensive computer equipment.
The fire ripped a gaping hole in the ceiling and melted computer monitors, and other equipment in the computer lab suffered serious water damage when firefighters tried to save the school.
"It's very unfortunate," said Sgt. Vince Matranga of the Sacramento School Police. "We have over fifty computers in here."
Arson investigators are trying to track down the cause of the blaze. "It's listed as suspicious, but we're not ruling anything out at this point," Sgt. Matranga said.
The damage is estimated at $50,000 to $75,000.
