Strange Men Found Digging For Guns In Backyard
MANTECA (CBS13) ―
A Manteca backyard has turned into a possible crime scene for a San Francisco cold case after police started digging for guns in the yard.
Maisha Adams says she was approached at her home on Tuesday by two men claiming to be taking soil samples for the City of Manteca.
"They said that they need one from the front yard and the back yard," she said.
She says she had a bad feeling when she went inside, so she told her mother, who immediately called the city. Adams peeked outside to see what they were doing.
"When I looked out the window they saw me look at him," she said. "I said, 'Mom, they're digging this huge hole.'"
Adams said the two men took off. "To me a light bulb went off," she said. "It has something to do with a guy claiming there are guns under here."
About a year ago, Adams says she was approached by a mysterious man on a bike who told her that guns connected to a crime in San Francisco were buried in her yard. She ignored the man at the time, but now believes there is something there.
Police and work crews came out and dug where the men left their shovels behind, even cutting through a slab of concrete, but came up empty-handed.
Manteca police are planning to step up patrols around the house in case the men come back.
