Loretto High Supporters Rally; Gain New Hope
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
There's new hope for Loretto High School. Hundreds packed a local church to try and find a way to keep the all-girls Catholic school open.
It was the power of prayer mixed with the passion of persistence. Close to 500 strong were stunned by the news their school is closing.
"We hope to save Loretto," said Bianca Galvez, Loretto parent.
Loretto high school, a private, catholic all-girls high school, has been around for more than half a century in Sacramento.
Declining enrollment and the downturn in the economy led school officials to announce this year would be the last.
"Not so fast" say the people who packed this church.
Something more valuable than money was collected in the donation baskets suggestions on how to make the miracle happen.
It's not out of the question what brought the crowd to its feet tonight; it was news the school has started talks with the diocese to find a way to keep the school open, in part, through a massive fundraising campaign.
The momentum to save Loretto continues tomorrow. A rally will take place at the school at 2 p.m. Hundreds are expected to attend.
