Woman Getting Death Threats After Euthanizing Dog

LODI, Calif. (CBS13) ― A Lodi woman says she's getting death threats after adopting and euthanizing a dog she called dangerous. Despite 10 celebrated years of animal activism, rescue volunteer Jill Morgan is afraid to show her face on television.

"I had one person want to take me out and shoot me," she said. "Another person says my kids should be taken away from me."

Morgan is being targeted because she euthanized Buddy, a golden retriever. She says two experts called the dog "aggressive" and recommended that he be put down after he ate a Chihuahua.

Morgan's non-profit rescue group gave the dog one more shot, taking him to dog behaviorist Dan Irish who was paid $2,000 to rehabilitate Buddy and keep him for good, according to Morgan.

Soon after, she said, Irish placed an advertisement on Craigslist to give the dog away.

Morgan decided to take matters into her own hands.

"It isn't a dog I wanted back in the public," she said.

Jill Morgan rented a car, used a fake name and pretended she would give Buddy a good home. Instead, she had the dog euthanized.

"My goal was just to get the dog away from him and not to get the dog in another unsafe environment," Morgan said. "It's all about the safety of families, children and other pets out there."

Dan Irish is furious with Morgan for setting him up. He claims that he never agreed to adopt the dog despite signing a contract, and he feels Buddy was rehabilitated and ready for a family to take in.

"I feel that she is a predator," Irish said in a phone interview with CBS13. "My grandchildren were with him and I trusted him 100 percent."

Irish is speaking with authorities and trying to pursue legal action against Morgan.
