Sac. Developer Funds $2 Mil. To Arena Campaign

SACRAMENTO (CBS 13) ― Thomas Enterprises, the developer who stands to make a great deal of money developing the railyard in downtown Sacramento, has given $2-million to the campaign supporting a sales tax hike to pay for a new downtown arena and other county programs.

Absent from today's announcement, the Maloofs owners of the Kings, or any of their representatives. So far the Maloofs have given no money to support the arena campaign. What's really going on with the proposed arena deal continues to be a mystery.

Supporters are distancing themselves from the Maloofs and they now say a new downtown arena has less to do with the Kings and more to do with legacy and vision.

Critics of the proposed arena continue to raise questions about the costs and the secrecy of the deal. They point to the FedEx Forum in Memphis completed in 2004 at a cost of $250-million. And the Kansas City Sprint Center, scheduled to be completed in 2007, at a cost of $276-million. The proposed cost of a Sacramento railyard arena is nearly double that amount at an estimated $542-million.
