Mom: Autistic Son Put In Tent As School Punishment
Parents Says Their Autistic Child Was Tormented
TRACY, Calif. (CBS13) ―
Gia McElroy says the way her son George has been treated by the Tracy Unified School District is disgraceful. "He is a little boy, but he wasn't treated like a little boy, he was treated like an animal." said McElroy.
She claims in a federal lawsuit that while at Louis Bohn Elementary school, George was removed from his first grade class and made to sit in a specially constructed tent where he could be heckled by other kids as if he were a circus sideshow.
In the court documents she is claiming that George's tutors would sometimes just watch as he repeatedly banged his head on the ground or wall, and would not stop him. She said at one point doctors performed a Cat scan revealing he had a serious concussion.
The school district said it's their policy not to comment on litigations.
Gia said the tutors may have been carrying out some experimental treatment on her son. She adds that she has tried working with the school district to provide special tutors and home schooling for her son, but so far nothing has worked out.
