Contributions Allow Roseville Parade To Continue
ROSEVILLE, Calif. (CBS13) ―
Budget cuts almost prevented a popular tradition in Roseville. Local businesses stepped up at the last minute to keep the annual 4th of July parade going.
The band marched on through the streets of downtown Roseville, but that wasn't always the plan.
"We were really disappointed and surprised that we heard the city had canceled the parade," said Dave Ramsey, veteran from American Legion Post 169.
That is, until six weeks ago when donations from organizations and businesses began pouring in. Close to $12,000 was raised just in time.
The cost to save the parade, some say, is priceless.
"How much is it worth to have a turnout like this that brings that community together to celebrate the birth of this nation and celebrate those who have served our country?" said Rocky Rockholm, Placer County Supervisor, Dist. 1.
"It makes me feel good to know I can bring my son and my wife and others bring their family to enjoy this together. It's a good feeling," said Grady Gataloia, veteran.
"They're really awesome out here in Roseville with supporting their veterans and local troops," said James Hereth, U.S. Army Staff Sgt.
Ten-year-old Kristen Brown looks forward to it every year because she's been attending.
The heaps family is also happy to keep the fourth of July parade tradition going.
"We're pretty patriotic. We want to instill that in our kids it's a great way to celebrate and give us some family time together," said Brad Heaps.
