Rescuers Free Kitten Stuck In Storm Drain
LINCOLN (CBS13) ―
Firefighters used air horns and water hoses to rescue a kitten that had been stuck in a Sacramento storm drain for more than a month. It's a rescue that came just in the nick of time before tomorrow's big downpour.
The calico kitten had been in the sewer system near Hurley Way and Fulton Avenue for several weeks, and customers at a nearby Quick Stop say they had heard the feline meowing; some even fed it.
Faced with the reality that tomorrow's storm could potentially fill the drain, Sacramento Metro firefighters arrived this morning in attempt to get the kitten out.
Workers first tried using food to lure the kitten. Then they tried a marine air horn at one of the pipe in an attempt to scare the kitten out of the other end where they could grab it. Finally, they used a fire hose to flood the tunnel and forced the kitten out.
Just minutes before 10 a.m., a firefighter plucked the kitten out of the drain. It a little wet, but in good health otherwise.
As quickly as it was rescued, it had a new home. A woman showed up at the Quick Stop and adopted the kitten on the spot.
