Report: Kevin Johnson Offered Girl 'Hush Money'
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
Mayor Kevin Johnson offered a young victim "hush money," according to a report released today by two Congressional Republicans. The report states Johnson offered to pay her $1,000 a month after she accused him of inappropriately touching her while she participated in the St. HOPE Academy Hood Corps Program.
The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee report also says Mayor Johnson was "treated lightly" for mismanaging charter school funds and exhibiting inappropriate sexual conduct towards students, because he's a "friend and political crony" of President Obama. Rep. Darrell Issa points to the firing of Inspector General Gerald Walpin who tried to go after Johnson, but was fired soon after.
"This firing creates a chilling effect on the efforts of Inspectors General to investigate waste and wrongdoing by those politically connected to this President. The appearance of cronyism stopping a serious investigation is deeply disturbing and will have significant consequences on future investigations."
Rep. Issa also accuses the White House Counsel's office of withholding information and misleading investigators on this matter.
The report also says Johnson's new fiancé, Michelle Rhee, a former St. HOPE board member, handled "damage control" when the young woman accused him of sexual misconduct.
A spokesman for Mayor Johnson denies the allegations, calling them politically motivated
