Police Assoc. Endorses Kevin Johnson For Mayor

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― Sacramento mayoral candidate Kevin Johnson was given a major endorsement today. The Sacramento Police Officers Association says it will back his campaign.

The union made announced the endorsement this afternoon.

"We need to be aggressive about fighting crime, but we also need to think more proactively about what is leading to the increases in crime and how we can prevent it on the front end," said Mark Tyndale, Vice President of the Board of Directors. "We need to ensure that the entire city – it's leadership and government – is aligned and supporting the work and goals of our police force. We believe Kevin Johnson is the candidate that will best provide the resources we need to keep Sacramento safe."

This is the second major endorsement for Johnson.  Former Sacramento mayor Jimmie Yee said he is backing Johnson earlier this month.
