Kevin Johnson Opens Campaign Headquarters
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
Kevin Johnson opened his new campaign headquarters on Sunday as the mayoral race against incumbent Heather Fargo began to heat up.
The tip-off to this intense competition actually started on March 5th when Johnson announced his candidacy, and since then he and Fargo have traded blows -- the Johnson camp says some of them have been below the belt.
Johnson was accused of owing back taxes, but Fargo has backtracked from that claim. She now cites blight on his properties in Oak Park. Johnson has said that Fargo lacks accountability and is not focusing enough on education and public safety.
Johnson's lack of city hall experience doesn't appear to discourage seasoned politicians from supporting him. Former mayor and sitting city council member Jimmie Yee endorsed Johnson, and the family of the late, beloved mayor Joe Serna embraces him.
