Kern County Wind Farm OKed By Board Of Supervisors
BAKERSFIELD (AP) ―
Plans for a 5,820-acre wind farm are moving forward with the blessing of Kern County's board of supervisors.
The supervisors approved the project Tuesday for a site 75 miles southeast of Bakersfield near the desert community of Rosamond.
EnXco, the energy company behind the wind farm project, says between 100 and 300 turbines would generate enough power for 90,000 Southern California Edison customers.
After the company agreed to monitor bird and bat deaths on the wind farm, the last obstacle was a protest by Northrop Grumman Co. The military contractor says radar clutter from the wind farm would disrupt operations at its nearby test facility.
Northrop Grumman and enXco officials have agreed for the wind farm to move two disputed turbines and delay some others until 2010.
