KCBS Radio Plane Forced To Land Near I-80 Ramp

OAKLAND (CBS/KCBS) ― A pilot and a KCBS radio traffic reporter suffered minor injuries when a small plane was forced to make an emergency landing Monday afternoon near an Interstate 80 on-ramp in Oakland, authorities said.

A call came in around 12:50 p.m. stating that a small aircraft was seen landing near West Grand Avenue, said Oakland fire Capt. Melinda Drayton.

The nose of the Cessna 172 stopped near a sand pile in a vacant lot, just south of the West Grand Avenue on-ramp to westbound Interstate 80 near the Bay Bridge.  Freeway traffic was not affected.

The pilot of the aircraft, owned by Flying Vikings based at the Hayward Executive Airport, indicated that the aircraft's engine stalled somewhere over Berkeley.
