Fraudulent Money Order Leads Dog Back To Family

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― You could call it a rough arrest for Sacramento police. They say their suspect took off with a purebred puppy. That's when this story takes some interesting twists.

She's smiling from ear to ear. Nallely Zuniga back with her Jack Russell Terrier for the first time in more than three weeks.

"Her name is Caramel," says Nallely.

Caramel's had quite a journey.

Nallely didn't want to give her up, but she needed cash and decided to sell the purebred. That's when David Rose showed up paying for the puppy with a money order for $500.

"My mom thought it was funny he was paying with a money order so she got the license plate number," explains Nallely.

"And as it turned out the money order did come back as fraudulent, it had been stolen," explains Sgt. Matt Young.

The license plate number led the copes right to their suspect in South Sacramento, but Caramel was missing. He said the dog ran away.

A good Samaritan found Caramel and posted pictures around the neighborhood. The suspect saw then and told police where to find her.

Now she is back with her rightful owner, Nallely.
