45-Foot Plunge Off I-5 May Be A Life-Saver
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
A dangerous car accident that sent a mother and daughter plunging 45 feet off an I-5 overpass may have inadvertently led doctors to a discovery that could save the mother's life.
Shannon Goods and her 11-year-old daughter Eryn Goods survived the rollover crash that sent their two-door Ford Explorer crashing down from the Sacramento overpass. Shannon, a registered nurse and captain in the Army, was trying to avoid another car.
"I remember swerving to get away from the car that was on the lane beside me," she said.
The car rolled over several times and flipped over the guardrail near Pocket Road, ending up in a crumpled heap of metal down near Freeport Boulevard.
Eryn Goods has a scar on her head from the airbag and torn up hands, but escaped serious injury.
The family doesn't consider it lucky that they escaped with their lives, preferring instead to call it blessed. The crash may end up being a life-saver.
After examining Shannon Goods shattered knee, doctors discovered a tumor that she didn't know about. They are not yet sure if it is malignant, but if it is, the accident could end up saving Shannon's life.
The only thing Shannon can't find is her wedding ring, but she agrees, if that's the only thing lost in the crash, she is a fortunate lady.
