Lodi Impound Lot Ransacked, Cars Stolen

LODI (CBS13) ― Two cars were stolen and many others ransacked overnight in a Lodi impound lot, according to authorities.

Some of the cars in the Geveke impound lot were towed, but many others were parked there by employees while the vehicles were being repaired. Thieves ransacked 15 cars and an RV, stealing steering wheels and stereos before loading them into a customer's car and driving it away.

At least some of the cars were left unlocked, and the stolen customer's stolen car had the keys still in the ignition. A company vehicle was also stolen.

The owner of the lot insists that it is one of the most secure lots in the city, citing a tall fence topped with razor wire and a top-of-the-line security system. He says thieves had to cut open a lock and remove a part of the fence to get in, and that the alarm system on the property did not sound.

Police are still investigating the thefts.

So far, the company who owns the lot is denying liability for the damages to their customers' vehicles.
