Oroville Fires Not Contained, 49 Structures Gone

OROVILLE (CBS13) ― A fire burning along Highway 70 and Ophir Way in Oroville has destroyed at least 49 structures, and is only 10 percent contained.

The first blaze started around 11:27 a.m., and a second fire started nearby around 2:00 p.m., spreading resources thin.

According to Cal Fire, more than 1600 acres have burned, destroying 99 vehicles, 15 mobile homes, six wood-frame homes and 28 other structures.  An evacuation order is in effect for the area, affecting more than 500 residents.

Residents are being asked to evacuated to the Church of Nazarene at 2238 Monte Vista Avenue in south Oroville, where the Red Cross is giving aid.
