High Pressure Keeping Heat, Fire Danger Turned Up

SACRAMENTO (CBS13/AP) ― Forecasters say a massive high pressure ridge will keep the heat and fire danger turned up again across a wide area of Northern California.

Triple-digit temperatures are likely in some Valley locations today.  Yesterday, a previous record high temperatures was broken at Sacramento International Airport where it hit 99 degrees.

And despite diminishing winds, there is still a Red Flag Alert for today.

The weather is creating serious issues for crews working to put out a fire in Butte County this morning.

Winds up to 40 miles an hour helped fuel the fire that started around 7:00 Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service says though hot temperatures will stick around throughout the weekend, there is some relief coming to the coastal areas.

Forecasters say thanks to increasing winds, temperatures will be slightly cooler in the North Bay and along the beaches.

But the weather service still has an excessive heat warning for the Santa Clara Valley and a heat advisory for the inland areas through Friday afternoon.

Thursday's soaring temperatures set heat records throughout the Bay Area.

The weather service says it hit 98 degrees in Oakland, breaking the previous record of 87 degrees for the day set in 1976.

San Francisco's high of 97 degrees and San Jose's high of 99 degrees were also records for the day.
