Girl, 6, Witnesses Grandmother's Brutal Murder
GUSTINE, Calif. (CBS13) ―
An alleged family feud ended with one woman dead and her brother in law behind bars for murder, and investigators say the victim's six-year-old granddaughter witnessed the attack.
The Gustine Police Department says that 52-year-old Alfonso Guzman got into a fight with his 49-year-old sister in law Linda Guzman and stabbed her at least four times Wednesday morning.
Police Chief Richard Calderon says they learned of the stabbing after a neighbor called for help. That neighbor, who did not wish to be identified, says a wounded Linda collapsed in her front yard and told her to call police.
Linda had her six-year-old granddaughter with her, and the young girl helped police arrest Guzman by giving a very detailed account of what happened.
Investigators say they were called to the home four months after responding to a call that a dog had been stabbed. Police never found out who was responsible.
Guzman has not been cooperative with police, and investigators do not have a motive for the alleged killing.
The incident is the first murder for the small town of Gustine this year.
