Former Sacramento Priest Gerardo Beltran Arrested

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― Former North Sacramento priest, Gerardo Beltran, has been arrested in Mexico based on child molestation charges filed in Sacramento County.

Beltran, who was a priest in North Sacramento, has been charged with four counts of child molestation involving two victims he allegedly victimized between 1989 and 1991. The case against him was filed in 1992.

The Federal Bureau of investigation Legal Attaché Office in Mexico City was of great assistance in locating and arresting Beltran.

Extradition proceedings are now underway.

A little over a year ago, CBS13 went to Iqualita, Mexico, a small village where Beltran had been hiding from U.S. authorities and saying mass for years. For nearly 15 years Sacramento County prosecutors and federal authorities were not able to bring Beltran back to Sacramento to face justice.

The D.A.'s office says that they are happy with the arrest today. They say they're looking forward to when he can be "returned to this jurisdiction to be held stand accountable for his conduct."
