Gas Below $3, Plane Tickets Sky High

SACRAMENTO (CBS) ―   It appears as though Sacramento valley residents may be receiving a gas break soon on the ground, but paying for it in the air.

Some area gas stations have been reported having prices as low as $3.00 and under while air fare is on the rise.  With oil prices high, fuel surcharges on many international flights have climbed in recent months.

These shocking increases are nearly half the price of the ticket itself.  U.S. visitors to Spain can expect to pay $390.00 in fuel surcharges for a round-trip flight.

In the U.S., major airlines charge about $20.00 in fuel for domestic flights.  On Monday, they doubled the surcharge to $40.00.

There does not seem to be any relief in sight as fares surge with the price of fuel.
