Burglary Suspect Shot After Trying To Rundown Cops
SACRAMENTO (CBS13/AP) ―
California Highway Patrol officers say they were nearly run over by a burglary suspect who was trying to get away with a flat-screen television.
Officer Lizz Dutton, a CHP spokeswoman, says two officers watched Sunday as a man carrying the TV jumped from a window of Mr. Haney's Gameday BBQ, a restaurant in suburban Sacramento.
The man ignored the officers' orders and got into a BMW.
The officers say they opened fire when he accelerated and sped toward them. He then drove through an alley and abandoned the vehicle.
A Sacramento County sheriff's tracking dog found 24-year-old Trevor Hunnewell an hour later in a nearby backyard. Hunnewell was treated for a bullet wound to his leg.
Neither officer was injured. Officer Monica Parsons says the CHP routinely patrols surface streets in unincorporated areas of the county.
