Lodi Rallies Around Crash Victims' Family
LODI (CBS13) ―
The Lodi community is coming to the aid of the family who lost six members after their car crashed into the Delta-Mendota Canal.
Two Lodi gas stations are donating money to the surviving families of the six crash victims. The farm workers drowned when their Ford Explorer plunged into the canal, and a Merced man driving a septic truck also died when his truck sank underwater.
The surviving family members don't have the money to bury their dead, so the Chevron station in Lodi donated five cents out of every dollar of gas sold on Saturday. They also set up a donation jar inside each station.
"So far it's been really good," said Sunny Singh, an employee. "We've had a lot of participation inside. A lot of people know about it before walking in."
Some customers went out of their way to get gas here. "I'm all for a good cause, you know," said Tim Ellsbury.
A close family member of the victims just happened to stop by for the fundraiser.
"The only think I have to say is thanks to everybody," said Araceli Martinez.
