A charity sold hundreds of raffle tickets for a new car, but criminals stole the prize before it could be given away.
People in the small town of Mountain Ranch pulled together and bought hundreds of tickets for a donated car draped with signs advertising the Mountain Ranch Little League fundraiser.
"I couldn't believe it," said organizer Phil Alberts. "I thought someone was playing a joke on me."
Phil had sold more than 360 raffle tickets for one dollar. The lucky winner was supposed to drive away in the car, but someone beat them to it -- the car was stolen.
In light of the theft, Phil says he is offering people their money back.
Sara Vines is upset someone stole her son's chance to play ball.
"I actually thought it was pretty bad that someone would stoop that low to steal something from the kids," she said.
Phil doubts the car will return home, but he refuses to give up. "We have a rule: NO kid can't play because of lack of funds," he said.
Organizers are going to get rid of the raffle tickets because they don't have another prize to raffle, but plan on adding another fundraiser.
