SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― Three people have been arrested and one suspect is still on the loose after a jewelry merchant was robbed and stabbed outside of a well-known Sacramento jewelry store this morning in planned jewel heist, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's department.

The Sheriff's department says the 70-year-old merchant was stabbed at 10 a.m. this morning as he was entering Grebitus and Sons jewelers on Fair Oaks Boulevard. The man was stabbed in the chest and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He could be released from the hospital as early as tomorrow.

"We have security in the trunk, so when he unlocked the trunk and pulled up the trunk, I was getting my purse out of the backseat," said Mamie Arnold, victim's wife. "And when I turned around to go towards him, they were on top of him and had already stabbed him. And they could have killed him."

CHP later unknowingly pulled over the suspects for speeding as they tried to get away. There were four people in the suspect vehicle, two men and two women. The women were taken into custody immediately. The two men who deputies believe are the stabbing suspects fled sparking a massive manhunt. The stolen merchandise has also been recovered.

Officers from five agencies blocked off the area and began searching for the suspects. One was arrested fairly quickly. The other suspect described as Hispanic in his 20's with short, dark hair.

Folsom Police, Rancho Cordova Police, CHP and Sacramento Police are assisting the Sacramento County Sheriff's department which is the lead agency. The CHP helicopter is assisting in the search and K9 officers are helping out on the ground.
