Keep Your Beloved Pets Safe This Fourth Of July

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― At a Sacramento dog park, one of the dogs, Tucker, was getting his daily exercise. A trained hunting dog, Tucker is used to loud sounds. But, Tucker is very afraid of the sounds of fireworks.

"So, what's funny is he can be around shotguns all day but fireworks do bother him. I think the high pitches of the fireworks are what bothers him, more than the explosion," says his owner, Keith.

So, Keith will be spending the holiday with him.

Sacramento City Animal Care services say they will have more call outs tonight, than any other. Mostly from pets that have run away, due to the fact they're scared of the loud noises. So, they're offering a piece of advice you probably haven't heard before.

"If at all possible, try to sedate the animals. If they (an owner) believes the animal is going to get scared sedate them anyway they can," says Animal Care.

And you should keep them indoors, and even play the radio or TV loudly just to keep them feeling comfortable.

And if you do come across a lost dog that ran away, think about this before you approach them.

"If you have a frightened animal that doesn't know its surroundings or someone just approaches it to try and pet it, the animal may become very dangerous," say Animal Care officials.
