FOLSOM, Calif. (CBS13) ― A woman barely escaped with her life after crashing her car while allegedly having a blood-alcohol level five times the legal limit.

Multiple witnesses, including an off-duty correctional officer, spotted 47-year-old Caroline Pochy driving erratically on Greenback Lane in Folsom early Sunday afternoon before the fiery wreck. Officer Brian Chord said he knew something was wrong when he first noticed Pochy's Nissan Sentra ahead of him.

"I tell my wife, 'I see this car, the windshield wipers are going, she's stopped, the light is green'," Chord said. "I said, 'You got behind the wrong car'."

Chord said Pochy lost control of her vehicle and spun out, hitting an embankment. Witnesses were rushing to help when the car burst into flames.

"I jumped out of the car and at that point, it already went boom," said Dave Sirzinski.

As flames spread through the car, bystanders tried to help Pochy get out of the car.

"The door was shut, she was trying to pound it open and the door was hitting the embankment," Chord said. "I am standing near the fire and she goes, 'It's hot.'"

Folsom police said a preliminary alcohol screening test showed that her blood-alcohol level was at .31 and rising.

"She made a comment to the nurse, 'I haven't been drinking'," Chord said.

Pochy was not seriously hurt in the incident. She has been arrested with DUI.

Authorities said Pochy was arrested two weeks ago in Citrus Heights for DUI.
