Should Fireworks Be Banned This Season?
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
With all the fires around our area, concern is growing about the safety of fireworks this Fourth of July.
Today, state and local fire officials will be announcing fines and penalties for people who sell illegal fireworks.
They'll also do their annual demonstration of the damage they can cause.
But even those "safe and sane" fireworks are sparking debate in this extremely dry fire season.
Starting this Saturday, legal fireworks stands will start popping up.
We won't be seeing any statewide ban, that's a decision left to local agencies.
Banning fireworks is a controversial issue, since hundreds of non-profit agencies rely on their sales for fundraising.
Fireworks are legal in the City of Sacramento, Sacramento County, Roseville, Rocklin and Lincoln.
In those areas, firefighters will have extra fire patrols on watch for any accidents.
