State Puts More Firefighters On Duty Due To Winds

SACRAMENTO (AP) ― Dry, gusty winds have prompted officials to issue a fire warning throughout Northern California.

State fire officials have put more firefighters on duty to monitor possible wildfires that may break out in the windy weather. Conditions are especially dry because of low rainfall this year.

The high winds, with gusts up to 45 mph, are caused by a strong cold front from the north. The National Weather Service has issued a "red flag warning" through Sunday.

On Thursday, firefighters in Butte County were busy dousing a series of small blazes that broke out in the brisk wind.

California already has experienced a devastating fire season, with more than 1.2 million acres burned this year.
