Hay Barn Goes Up In Flames In SJ County
FARMINGTON (CBS13) ―
Sixteen hundred tons of hay went up in flames Wednesday morning in San Joaquin County in a massive barn fire that is being monitored by five different fire agencies.
The hay which is stored in a covered barn is burning in Farmington off of Carter Road. The fire was reported by workers around 5:00 a.m.
Farmington fire crews as well as firefighters from Escalon, Linden, Collegeville and Oakdale are monitoring the blaze but they plan to let it burn out. Fire fighters say that could take two to three days.
There are power lines nearby and PG&E is on scene by right now the wind is blowing the fire away from the lines.
The hay is estimated to be worth $340,000. It's unclear what exactly sparked the fire. However, fire fighters say spontaneous combustion is likely.
