Fairfield Salvation Army Sees Huge Spike In Need

More Local News
FAIRFIELD (CBS13) ―

In another sign of how many people are hurting in this economy, the Salvation Army in Fairfield says they have seen their requests for Christmas Assistance spike by 65% over last year.

Last year, 385 people applied for help but this year, they received 585 applications.  Now they're worried they won't be able to provide for all the families in need.

"At this point I am unsure how we will provide everything disadvantaged families in our area will need to have a nice Christmas," said Major Willdonna Rich, The Salvation Army of Fairfield Corps Officer. "It is my hope that generous members of the public will be able to help us meet this increased need so that everyone has what they need to ensure a happy holiday for their family."

The Salvation Army provides holiday food boxes, toys for children and clothing.  Donations to the Christmas Assistance program can be made to:

The Salvation Army-Fairfield Corps
Attn: Christmas Assistance
1216 Missouri Street
Fairfield, CA 94533
