Good Samaritans Encounter Thief Twice
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
A Good Samaritan couple got not one, but two chances to stop a burglar who made off with a store's Good Friday profits. Authorities arrested a suspect for robbing a downtown Sacramento store after the couple ran into him again at an unlikely place.
Joann's Elegant Gifts had a good business day last Friday, but it took an unexpected twist when a man with a gun came into the store and demanded the money. He grabbed the cash and took off, but Joann shouted for help.
A couple passing by, James Gravin and Stacey Thrasher, heard the commotion and saw the suspect fleeing the scene. They went after him, Gravin taking the lead.
"I said, 'Get him, babe! Get him, babe!" Stacey laughed.
They pursued the man into a nearby alley, where he dumped the money onto the ground and fled. James and Stacey collected the money and returned it to the store.
But the story doesn't end there.
After the incident, James and Stacey headed to a nearby bar, the Torch Club, to unwind. While they were there, the suspect reportedly walked into the establishment.
"I said, 'I think that's him,'" James recalled. "I couldn't believe it."
Stacey headed outside and flagged down a nearby patrol car. Law enforcement arrived and took the man into custody.
Thanks to a little bravery and luck, the couple got a second chance to help catch the man who robbed Joann's.
