Unsuspecting Employees Laid Off At Elk Grove Ford
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
It was a total surprise to many employees who showed up for work today. CBS13 went to Elk Grove Ford where we spoke with people shocked to find out today was their last day.
The website still looks active, but there are no deals to be made tonight at Elk Grove Ford.
Employees who were just laid off this afternoon tell CBS13 the dealership fell victim to bad economic times.
"They cannot afford to keep is employed here any longer. That's what the owner told us," says one former employee.
Managers at Elk Grove Ford refused to give us a statement today. But the laid off technicians who talked say the staff knew the closure was coming.
"The rumor was going on for six months. So I knew it was gonna happen. So not a big shock," says another former employee.
But they worry about what all their co-workers are going to do now.
"Some guys have been struggling with the economy and all that. This industry is not doing that great," says a manager.
Those we spoke with tonight say they're optimistic they won't lose their shirts, except the one they now have to lose.
"I'm taking it off right now because I'm no longer affiliated with Elk Grove Ford."
