UC Davis Investigating Rash Of Skunk Deaths

REDDING (AP) ― Captain Lee Anne Smith has been sprayed by a skunk so many times in the last six weeks, she's lost count.

The Redding Animal Control officer has now tallied 42 dying or dead skunks in the area.

The state Department of Fish and Game is awaiting the results of testing at the University of California, Davis, on what's causing the illness.

Animal officers have also found raccoons and foxes that appear to be ill.
