A state watchdog commission has decided not to pursue an ethics investigation into the sex scandal that brought down a Republican state lawmaker.
The Fair Political Practices Commission declined to pursue a complaint made by an activist over the sexually explicit remarks made by then-Assemblymember Mike Duvall during a summer meeting.
Duvall was caught on tape bragging about sexual affairs with two women, one of whom was a lobbyist for an energy company. At the time, Duvall was vice chair of the Assembly Utilities and Commerce Committee, where he authored 20 bills, one on electricity rates.
Derek Cressman, a member of the group Common Cause, filed a complaint with the FPPC on October 14 alleging that the relationship between Duvall and the two women violated state laws.
In a statement, the FPPC said that there wasn't enough evidence of wrongdoing.
"Regrettably, the only evidence you provided in support of your claim was the referencing of a number of media reports that detailed former Assembly Member Duvall's statements," the report said.
