No Charges Likely In Horse Dragged To Death
SONORA (AP) ―
Authorities say a Tuolumne County woman likely will not face animal cruelty charges after she accidentally dragged a horse behind a trailer for almost four miles.
Margaret Whitelaw said she discovered her daughter's horse dead Monday night after she saw in her right mirror that the trailer's right door was open.
Sonora police Chief Mark Stinson said officials found streaks of blood along roads for about 3 3/4 miles.
Whitelaw said she did not notice the horse falling out because she was driving on a bumpy dirt road. The 55-year-old Jamestown resident said it was too dark to see the door was open until she drove into downtown Sonora.
Sheriff's Sgt. A.J. Ford said Whitelaw likely will not be charged because she did not appear to have acted maliciously.
