Dense Fog Blankets Much Of Northern California
SACRAMENTO (CBS13/AP) ―
Dense fog is shrouding much of California including the Valley and coastal areas this morning making for dangerous conditions on roads and delaying flights at some major airports.
The central and southern Sacramento Valley is under a Dense Fog Ddvisory in effect until noon. The CHP is advising motorists to allow extra time for the morning commute. The fog will especially affect drives on Interstate 5, Interstate 80 and Highway 99.
The CHP is providing escorts on bad stretches of California roadways including Interstate 5 near Sacramento International airport, on Highway 152 between Los Banos and the Merced County line, and on Highway 99 between Madera and Chowchilla.
The fog is also causing delays at San Francisco International airport. The Federal Aviation Authority says arrivals are averaging delays of a little more than one hour.
Visibility is less than 100 feet in areas from Santa Barbara to San Diego and fog could again delay, divert or lead to cancelation of flights at San Diego's Lindbergh Field. Flights are also delayed at Los Angeles International Airport.
The National Weather Service says the fog will burn off at about 9 a.m. in those areas.
Pacific Coast Highway from Ventura County to Santa Monica is socked in, and the San Diego and Harbor freeways in the Los Angeles area have visibility down to a quarter-mile or less.
